Once volunteers have completed "This is Scouting," giving them an overview of the BSA program, they begin training for a specific Scouting position. This training provides the specialized knowledge a new leader needs to assume a leadership role. Because each course is designed for a specific leadership position, the training time varies.

These training programs are offered throughout the year at convenient locations hosted by dedicated volunteers who want to help make your Scouting experience enjoyable. Check the Council Training Calendar for dates and locations

Taking training once does not make you trained forever. When you change your position in Scouting, you need to take the specific training for your new position. As an example, you can't be a trained Scoutmaster if you have only taken Cub Scout training. Each training course helps you to understand the unique needs of your new position, and the Scouts that you will support. You can gain a lot from participating in specific training, even for Scouters that have been involved in our program for many years.

Position Specific Training for all adults in Cub Scouting

Following This is Scouting Training, this course is phase two of a new Cub Scout Leader's introduction to the Boy Scouts of America and to the responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful pack leadership experience. This course is intended for every adult leader in every Cub Scout Pack. Participants receive specific instruction in their leadership position which will help them succeed in that position

• Pack Organization

• The Role of the Leader

• Advancement

•  Den and Pack Program Planning

• Webelos-to-Scout Transition

Position Specific Training for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters

Following This is Scouting Training, this course is phase two of a new Scoutmaster's introduction to the Boy Scouts of America and to the responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful troop leadership experience.

The course topics include:

• The Role of the Scoutmaster

• Troop Organization

• Troop Meetings

• Working with Boy Leaders

• The Patrol Method

• The Patrol Leaders' Council

• The Outdoor Program

• The Advancement Program

• Program Planning

• Membership

• Paperwork

• Finances

Position Specific Training for Troop Committee Chairman and Members

Following This is Scouting training, this course is phase two of a new Troop Committee member's introduction to the Boy Scouts of America and to the responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful troop leadership experience.

The course topics include:

• The Organization of Scouting

• Role of the Troop Committee

• Roles and Responsibilities by Position

• Delivering the Scouting Promise

• How to work as a TEAM

All participants are expected to attend in full uniform and to bring a copy of the appropriate leader's manual (i.e. Cub Scout Leader Book, Scoutmaster Handbook, Troop Committee Guidebook, etc.) for their position.
